David Mann Chopper Fest
Choppers Magazine: Proud to Continue the Legacy of the David Mann Chopper Fest
We’re thrilled to announce that Choppers Magazine has officially acquired the iconic David Mann Chopper Fest, a celebration of artistry, motorcycles, and culture that’s been a cornerstone of the chopper community for decades. Taking on this legacy is not just a privilege but a responsibility—one that we approach with immense gratitude and respect.
A Legacy Forged in Brotherhood: David Mann and Ed Roth
David Mann, often referred to as the "Norman Rockwell of the biker world," was a true visionary in capturing the soul of motorcycle culture. His vivid paintings immortalized the freedom, rebellion, and camaraderie that define the chopper lifestyle. Mann’s creative journey was deeply intertwined with that of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, the legendary custom car and motorcycle designer. Roth recognized Mann’s unparalleled talent and brought him into the fold, publishing Mann’s artwork in Choppers Magazine and later in Easyriders. Their collaboration set the stage for Mann’s enduring influence on biker culture and art.
Honoring Dave "Huggie" Hansen
This transition wouldn’t have been possible without the guidance and trust of Tory Hansen, who has kept the spirit of this festival alive for years. We’re deeply honored that Tory has entrusted Choppers Magazine to carry the torch. We also remain committed to celebrating the legacy of the late David "Huggie" Hansen, a pivotal figure in the festival’s history. Huggie’s passion and dedication to the chopper world will always be an integral part of the Chopper Fest.
Ventura Show: Keeping the Spirit Alive
First things first: the beloved Ventura event is here to stay! The 2025 David Mann Chopper Fest will take place on February 9, from 8 AM to 4 PM, at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. The vibe, the venue, and the community you’ve come to know and love will remain unchanged. It’s still the ultimate gathering of chopper enthusiasts, artists, and builders, set against the stunning backdrop of the California coast. For all the details, visit chopperfestival.com.
Looking to the Heartland: Kansas City
While we’re committed to keeping the Ventura tradition alive, we’re also exploring the possibility of adding a second Chopper Fest in Kansas City, Missouri—David Mann’s hometown. The Midwest holds a special place in the chopper world, and we’re excited to bring the festival’s energy and artistry to Mann’s roots. Stay tuned for updates as we work to expand the festival’s reach and legacy.
A Community United
As we step into this new chapter, our goal is simple: to honor the artistic and cultural contributions of David Mann and ensure that the Chopper Fest remains a vibrant celebration of everything it represents. We’re grateful to Tory Hansen for trusting us with this incredible event and to the community for their continued support.
Mark your calendars, spread the word, and get ready to celebrate chopper culture in all its glory. Whether you’re in Ventura, Kansas City, or somewhere in between, the David Mann Chopper Fest is your festival. Let’s keep the ride going.
Ride hard and stay free,
The Choppers Magazine Crew
